Gnarly Roots began with one simple question:

Who am I underneath everything I’ve been taught to be?

Its founder, Brandy Taylor, spent much of her life doing what many of us do—surviving.

Raised in chaos, she learned to adapt before she learned who she was. Later came years of recovery, unhealthy relationship patterns, and the slow realization that healing wasn’t just about leaving pain behind. It was about discovering what had always been there underneath it.

Along the way she earned degrees, became a Licensed Independent Social Worker and Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor, worked in hospitals and treatment settings, led recovery programs, and spent years studying how our brains, nervous systems, relationships, and experiences shape the way we move through the world.

But something was missing.

Healing couldn’t always be found inside four walls.

Sometimes it happened on a trail.
While spinning fire.
While laughing with strangers.
Trying something terrifying.
Watching a sunrise.
Learning how to breathe again.

Brandy realized she wasn’t the only person longing for something more than simply getting through life.

She yearned for wonder.

For magic.

For the kind of experiences that remind us we are fully alive.

As she shared that vision, something unexpected happened.

Other guides, teachers, artists, adventurers, and facilitators found themselves saying,

“I’ve been looking for this too.”

Gnarly Roots became more than one person’s dream.

It became a community.

A place where people come together to create experiences that quiet the noise, reconnect us to ourselves, challenge old stories, and make room for joy, curiosity, courage, and genuine human connection.

We believe healing isn’t about becoming someone new.

It’s about remembering who you were before fear convinced you otherwise.

This isn’t therapy.

It’s learning to fly.

It’s about helping you step outside the boxes you’ve inherited, experience the world with fresh eyes, and discover that your life might be bigger, freer, and far more magical than you imagined.
